Ergonomics for the Desk-Bound

This seminar can be done as a one-hour seminar or Lunch and Learn presentation. Ergonomics for the Desk-Bound provides information to your employees to enable them to evaluate their office workstation set-up and achieve proper set-up to minimize discomfort and maximize productivity.

These presentations, provided in your boardroom or meeting room, teach participants the causes of, and contributing factors to repetitive strain and back injuries. During the course, participants learn the proper way of setting up an office workstation as well as stretches to relax tense and sore muscles. They will take with them a clearly designed pamphlet to assist them in setting up their own workstation and they will leave understanding some cheap (often free) and effective ways to modify their workstation to make it more "ergonomically correct".

Stretches are performed during the seminar and a Stretching Guide as well as a summary pamphlet are provided as handouts.

3-Hour Seminar

More detailed than the 1-hour seminar, this session focuses on teaching practical techniques to prevent injury. Lifting techniques are taught and practiced and more specific information is provided on proper office workstation set-up to prevent repetitive strain injuries. As well, visual discomfort in the workplace is discussed, focusing on the eye, glare, and exercises to preserve eye comfort.

Train the Assessor (Office Ergonomics: Learning to Conduct an Assessment)

This course can be taught within companies, to your Occupational Health and Safety team or your Ergonomics Task Force. This takes between one and a half (1.5) and two (2) days, including the follow-up day to ensure employees are successful in performing assessments.

It is also taught as a publically-offered course, approximately 4 times per year. This course is two (2) days, with a half-day (.5) follow up three weeks later.

This course builds on the ergonomic principles and concepts taught in the shorter courses. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to assist coworkers to set up their office workstations and provide instruction on correct working positions.

It focuses on the whole-life, rather than just the office environment.
